Shorthorn Dispersal 31st October, 2009

Sunday, 1st November 2009

A successful day yesterday when we dispersed the Beef Shorthorns to concentrate on the Longhorn herd. Below is the report from the Auctioneers, McCartneys which gives the highlights. We were particularly pleased when, after spirited bidding, Mr Rea of Challow secured the heifer calf Gorse Augusta Chardonnay. With Clive Roads generously waiving his commission and two donations from farmers who could'nt come to the sale this means that 1,100 was raised for Combat Stress the leading charity specialising in the care of British ex-servicemen and women's mental health.

The dispersal sale of the "Gorse" herd of Beef Shorthorns for John S Brigg at Worcester Market hit new heights for the breed in the south. A superbly presented entry found a strong following with buyers from literally across the country and all animals were without question hotly contested.

Top call of the day was a very creditable 3,350gns for "Gorse Augusta Xceptional" a 5 year old cow with bull calf at foot being finally secured by an undisclosed buyer from Northampton. The same buyer who made 9 purchases in all took the only in calf heifer in the sale "Gorse Augusta Agatha" at 3,050gns.

Local breeders CH Rowberry, Chaddesley Corbett, Kidderminster made astute purchases with "Gorse Augusta Yarrow" and her steer calf at 2,500gns and later went on to secure the stock bull "Gorse Tearaway" at 3,100gns.
